How I discovered hypnotherapy

One day, my dentist mentioned my teeth grinding to me. I had been experiencing tension, gum problems, and sinus infections due to the pressure for a long time and he recommended I try hypnotherapy. Until then, I had never heard of it. I quickly became enthusiastic because I experienced that everything I had already been able to work through in psychotherapeutic self-exploration, I could now truly dissolve through hypnotherapy. This means I was able to resolve certain issues I had been dealing with and move freely into my future using this scientifically-based practice.

Even in psychotherapy, I had already worked a lot with patients in the context of the connection between body and soul. However, it wasn't until my hypnotherapeutic self-exploration that I realized how strongly they are really connected: Physical symptoms are indicators of issues in the psyche that urge to be examined.

Our psychological defense - meaning any unconscious strategy that serves to regulate intra-psychic or interpersonal conflicts in a way that provides relief to our mental state - is a great gift that we should appreciate. It's a clever protection and incredibly creative. In hypnotherapy, we engage in dialogue with our Unconscious Mind and examine this defense. Sometimes we outpace our inner-defense as we grow and it may need some help catching up so it doesn’t hold us back. Additionally, we may have different ideas than the Unconscious Mind and it's time to have a conversation about them. Doing so can also help us discover which external conditions/relationships are holding us back from inner healing.
